Je Suis Charlie
Dear Mom and Dad,
I am sure you have heard about the Charlie Hebdo situation. I am fine and am currently in a hotel in Nice. The shootings happened at 10 Rue Nicolas-Appart, 4.2 kilometers away from my apartment. The tragedy occurred on January 7 at around 10:30 am. Twelve people were killed and 4 were critically wounded. This attack is believed to be the deadliest one since 1961. I am not sure how I feel about this. I think that both groups did something wrong. Charlie Hebdo did release a comic of something sacred in the Islam religion but I do not think that it was right to kill the people involved. People can have different opinion on a religion but that does not give you the right to kill someone with a different opinion than your own. Paris prides itself on it's freedom of speech and Charlie Hebdo comics was protected under that law. I don't believe that killing people was the answer. I am grateful to not have been in Paris at this time and there is no need for you to worry about me.
Love,
Kelly
